However, Nintendo’s not particularly keen on such practices and has already put the kibosh on the scheme with a new update. Patch 1.1.1 is meant to fix “a serious bug affecting game balance,” according to Nintendo, and while the developer didn’t specifically reference the item dupe glitch in its patch notes, it’s pretty clear what it was meant for. 

Downloading the 1.1.1 update is the only way to experience Animal Crossing’s upcoming seasonal event, Bunny Day, which begins on April 1. Further dissuading anyone from taking advantage of the glitch, there is “no local communication compatibility with Ver. 1.1.0 or earlier.” 

Anyone wanting to fill their coffers the quick and easy way won’t be able to play online, missing out on one of New Horizons’ key game mechanics. That’s not to mention all of the neat (and sometimes scary) creations other players have dreamed up.
