The first thing on immediate display is NieR Replicant’s visual enhancements compared with NieR Gestalt. Gone are the blurry, smudgy environments of the PS3-era, and in their stead are detailed textures, longer draw distances, and crisper visuals all around.

NieR Replicant’s soundtrack received a brush up too. The Barren Temple BGM in particular was tweaked with a slightly slower tempo, increased ambiance, and more distinction given to the vocals.

It’s not alone, either. Square Enix released two sample tracks of remastered NieR Replicant classics, “Snow in Summer” and “Kainé” from the Soundtrack Weiss, part of the game’s special White Snow edition. There’s also a new compilation video with shorter clips of more remastered tracks.

The NieR Replicant gameplay video also highlights changes Square Enix said it made to the combat system, including the new magic attacks added for more combo potential, and as we reported before, NieR Replicant is fully voiced.

The script won’t be quite what fans remember from the original, though. It’s been updated in a few ways, not the least of which is Kainé’s spiced up dialogue in keeping with her personality. NieR Replicant releases April 23 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
