In case you missed out before, Smart Delivery is Microsoft’s plan to let consumers who purchase current-gen versions of a game — like Yakuza 7 for example — receive an upgraded next-gen version for free.
The lack of Smart Delivery is possibly because Visual Concepts is building next-gen versions of NBA 2K21 “from the ground up” — or maybe not. It’s not currently clear.
While a spokesperson for the game told IGN that they’re interested in the possibilities of Smart Delivery, the only way to get a free upgraded next-gen version is if you buy the $99.99 NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Edition.
Of course, the big question is whether we’ll see other next-gen games follow suit with a $10 price increase. Since Sony and Microsoft are still playing coy with console prices, we probably won’t know anything new about next-gen game prices for a few more months at least.
The original story is on IGN if you want to check it out. NBA 2K21 is set for a September release date for PS4 and Xbox One, and a Holiday 2020 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, though we’ve only seen the barest glimmer of a teaser for it so far.
Current- and next-gen versions of NBA 2K21 give you the option to buy the Mamba Forever Edition, a tribute to Los Angeles Laker’s legend Kobe Bryant. The standard, current-gen edition of NBA 2K21 will feature Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers on the box art, and standard next-gen editions will feature Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans.
